FISKERTON ROAD 30 MPH

We the undersigned petition the council to REDUCE THE SPEED LIMIT ON FISKERTON ROAD /FISKERTON ROAD EAST WITHIN THE VILLAGE BOUNDARY OF CHERRY WILLINGHAM FROM 40 TO 30 MPH

Residents are concerned about the noise created by the increased volume of traffic throughout the day. Fiskerton/Fiskerton East has a variety of users from Horses, bicycles, motorcycles, agricultural vehicles, cars, vans and HGV. There is a constant stream throughout the day with peaks in the early morning and early evening and this continues throughout the weekend. It has become almost impossible to enjoy sitting in the garden and the impact of the bypass will surely make matters worse. Excessive noise is also generated by vehicles and motorcycles accelerating prior to exiting the 40 mph limit. While accepting that 40 mph is deemed appropriate for rural roads with open countryside on one side of the road, other factors such as numbers of houses, distance from the road, volume and type of traffic, and the wishes of the residents, surely must also be taken into consideration. The impact upon road users of a speed reduction to 30 MPH through the village boundary would be negligible. However, the benefits to the residents would be considerable as a reduction of 10 mph can reduce noise by up to 40% and make it safer for those on horse, bicycle and foot.
