Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE)
Description
The functions of the SACRE are:-
(a) To advise the Council upon such matters connected with religious worship in schools as the Council may refer to the SACRE or as the SACRE itself may think fit.
(b) to consider and determine in accordance with section 12 of the 1988 Act applications from headteachers of county schools in relation to the requirement for collective worship reflecting the broad traditions of Christian belief to apply at their school.
(c) to advise the Council upon such matters connected with religious education to be given in accordance with an agreed syllabus as the Council may refer to the SACRE or as the SACRE itself may think fit including, in particular, methods of teaching, the choice of materials, and the provision of training for teachers.
(d) to consider whether or not to require a review of any agreed syllabus for the time being adopted by the Council, and
(e) to publish an annual report.
