Gorse Lane, Grantham - terrible state of the road

We the undersigned Request traffic calming measures and speed restrictions to reduce the amount and speed of all traffic, especially articulated lorries, along a road that is at best, a car and a half wide and heavily pot holed in places.

Over the years there has been an increasing number of accidents and near misses as more vehicles use a road that was never designed to be used by the volume now using it.

As the Grantham Southern Relief Road enters the next phase of delivery and we reach a point that the road will become a reality, action needs to be taken now to prevent the Gorse Lane becoming the short cut from the A607 at Croxton Kerrial to the new roundabout joining the A1 and Southern Relief Road, avoiding the A1 altogether which it will inevitably be if nothing is done given it is the shortest route.

The road is already heavily pot holed in places, especially following recent rainfall, posing a serious threat of damage to vehicles and narrowing the road in places to the point where it is impossible for two cars to pass each other safely.

Finally, the speed with which drivers choose to travel the road, in vehicles of all sizes, poses a serious risk to life. There are numerous cycle events that are held on the road and there is a livery stables within the Hungerton village boundary housing horses and their riders who are also frequent users of the road, many of whom are minors and all of whom will not use the road without company as drivers will not slow down and frequently scare the animals. The community are unable to prove this point via a Community Speed Watch programme because the road has a 60 mph limit which is above the 40 mph limit that the Community programme goes up to.
